Hollowman Badwater to open again for legendary New Orleans musician and ‘King of the 21st Century Blues’ Chris Thomas King

Chris Thomas King - Antebellum Postcards new albumBetsy Badwater and Lang Hollowman are once again extremely humbled and excited to perform as Hollowman Badwater opening for legendary New Orleans musician and ‘King of the 21st Century Blues’ Chris Thomas King at Vinyl Music Hall on Saturday January 21st, 2012. Expect to hear their set almost completely full of songs from the new album ‘Engine No.9′ still in production. Chris just recently released his most recent album ‘Antebellum Postcards’ from October 2011.
It’s his first new studio album in 5 (five) years and the 15th album of his award-winning career. Antebellum Postcards feature’s 10 new songs and was in stores worldwide on October 4, 2011.

Chris Thomas King is also celebrating the 10th anniversary of the multi-platinum soundtrack “O Brother, Where Art Thou.” The deluxe re-mastered CD hit stores worldwide on August 23, 2011 on Lost Highway/Universal Records.

As a New Orleans musician King has been the vanguard of blues and roots music in the 21st Century. King has sold more records and appeared in more successful films than any other blues artist this century. Steeped in tradition as a singer and guitarist on his now classic performances on the O Brother soundtrack King found crossover fame as a successful actor in the Coen Brothers movie as Tommy Johnson (the character who joined Soggy Bottom Boys and told them he’d sold his soul to the devil at the crossroads) opposite George Clooney.

Over the past ten years we’ve seen the multi-talented King in over a dozen Hollywood films including the Oscar winning “Ray” in which he played the band leader Lowell Folsom and scored the films Grammy winning music along side Ray Charles himself. King currently has a recurring acting role in the celebrated HBO series Treme.

Hollowman Badwater continuing on the train for the next album “Engine No.9″

Engine No.9 - Hollowman Badwater - Betsy Badwater & Lang Hollowman continuing on with recording for the December 2011 release of the next album "Engine No.9"This all seems like it happened yesterday, so here’s a recap of August & September and what is ahead. We had a great run through central & south Florida hitting several shows in Gainesville, Orlando, and Punta Gorda. Two new recordings were finished in a hotel room (“Dear Delilah” & “Letter from John”) that are now getting play on Punta Gorda country radio station 92.9 KIX Country,…contact ‘em and request us, and also listen live online, if you’re not in their radio area. Unbelievable love, turnout & show for our bass player’s (Joey Harrison) “Cancer Sucks” benefit at Vinyl Music Hall, one-love for the Harrison family & friends. All the family got in on Greg Guzman’s NPR/WUWF.org blues show “The Blue Plate Special” with our good buddies ‘The Jericho Road Show‘ (Rambling Steve Gardner, Bill Steber, & Cody Ruth) the end of August. And ‘WOW!!’, we just finished out our first show, that graciously hoot-n-hollered packed out at ‘The Dragon’s Den’ in New Orleans in the French Quarter…we cannot wait to get back there for another!! While going to this show for the early soundcheck, we ran into ‘Washboard Chaz’ half-a-block away while he was playing his show…he’s a friend of The Jericho Road Show and we’ve listened to him on countless albums, including his…it was wild!!
So, HOLLOWMAN BADWATER are continuing on with recording through October&November for the next album “Engine No.9″ to be released December 2011. We’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with our good friend / HD video producer, Ryan O’Keeley (http://www.okeeley.com), who’s producing some down-home session videos of a few of the new songs that we think you’ll really dig…we’ll give you a peak as soon as production finishes. Many of the new songs you’ve been hearing at the shows, because we’re on fire playing them between us. The coal is getting heavy loaded in the burner as we burn up through some high-altitude steep mountains, the brakeman passed-out w/ a bad fever,…so when we hit the downhill run, it’s gonna be wide-open burnin’ fast on “Engine No.9″. C’ya soon folks!!

BB&HBC are really excited to share a show with such an authentic New Orleans band….well, need we say more than the following:

“Genetically theatrical… appetite-whetting… a snow-globe carnival segueing seamlessly from kazoo- and clarinet-blown circus shenanigans to smooth-croon lounge, and finely fingered folk ballads to banjo hoedowns, jazzy sax solos and staccato piano jams” – Noah Bonaparte-Pais, Gambit Weekly

“Riotous… racuous… swashbuckling sea chanteys, paranoid polkas, and carnival jazz, often in the same song… now that’s my kind of party!” – Aaron Lafont, Groovescapes

This will be a ROCK SHOW for this Thursday May 12th w/ The Architects at Vinyl Music Hall – $5 Tickets, 3 other bands, 8pm start time. BBHBC stage after 10pm

Thursday May 12th, 2011 – The Architects (Kansas City), COCKFIGHT, BETSY BADWATER & THE HILLBILLY CHROME, SWIM WITH SHARKS
BB&HBC (Badwater, Hollowman, & Harrison lineup) will be burning it down loud and hard for this show, so be prepared. The set consists of 90% new songs that no one can get from the albums or recordings. If you’ve been waiting to catch them at one of the best music venues in the south, then Thursday night is your time. FREE Buttons and the album ‘TALES of the WAYWARD’ will be available for purchase as well.

About The Architects: True to The Architects form, The Hard Way resonates with big, classic rock sounds like those of late 70’s groups. Cases in point- “This Wasted Ocean” rattles and shakes with Isle Of Wright-era The Who, propelled by explosive frenzies of drums and roaring guitar. Elsewhere, “Death Rides a Horse” brings Sabbath’s epic dirge face to face with ZZ Top’s dark and dusty Deguello while “Big Iron Gate” takes home a blue ribbon for best confluence of AC/DC and Bruce Springsteen influences ever.
“I have an axe to grind with law enforcement and the way we treat crime and punishment in this country.” Says, Brandon about the aforementioned “Big Iron Gate” – a classic sounding jail-song in nearly every sense. “ I love that song because I happen to feel strongly about the subject matter and because the particular style of the song allowed me to break out my snottiest Midwestern drawl.”
That snotty Midwestern drawl and hard-nosed Midwestern work ethic will serve The Architects well as they embark this summer on the entire 2009 Vans Warped Tour to bring The Hard Way and The Architects certifiably stellar live performances to kids across North America through a gauntlet of dust, grit, sweat, three-two beer, dehydration and sunstroke- you can bet your ass it won’t be easy and you can bet your ass that The Hard Way is where The Architects thrive.

Doors: 7:00 pm / Show: 8:00 pm
Venue: Vinyl Music Hall
Location: Pensacola, FL
Tickets: $5.00 – Online Tickets Here: http://www.ticketfly.com/purchase/event/38167

Miss IZZY COX w/ Cody Ruth, Betsy Badwater & The Hillbilly Chrome, and Stijl Calhoun @ The Handlbar – Thurs. April 21st, 2011

Izzy Cox, Betsy Badwater & The Hillbilly Chrome, and Stijl Calhoun @ The Handlebar April 21, 2011Betsy Badwater & The Hillbilly Chrome are very excited to be hosting and participating in an evening that includes folk/americana singer/songwriter Stijl Calhoun, and the great Miss Izzy Cox accompanied w/ Mississippi’s best modern upright bass player and our good friend, Mr. Cody Ruth.

“Izzy Cox is generating quite a buzz, when Rick Rubin, Quentin Tarantino and Nan Warshaw are singing your praises you know she must be good. Izzy Cox is an anarchist crooner who has coined the style Voodoobilly Jazz as her own. Influenced by old movie soundtracks, old time bar room blues and country singers her lyrics are like diary entries. Stories of serial killers, buckaroo cowboys, snake handlers and sports of nature.

After a career on the East Coast Izzy caught a Greyhound to Hollywood, CA. At a backyard vegan barbeque hootenanny in Silverlake, she met guitar player Billy Pitman, who has played with Jimmie Vaughan, Hubert Sumlin, Janis Martin, Gatemouth Brown, LouAnn Barton, Billy Gibbons, Rev. Horton Heat and Eric Clapton. After only five years she put out four albums and has opened up for Wayne Hancock, Jr. Brown, Jack White, Big Sandy and the Fly Rite Boys, Devil Doll, The Jim Rose Circus and counts among her fans Todd the Surfer, Quentin Tarantino, the late Gene Autry and producer Rick Rubin (Johnny Cash, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica) who dug her stripped down sound from live appearances on college radio stations.

Her new record Killing My Kind is an amazing piece of work that combines many formats including Alt-Country, Rockabilly, Jazz, Blues and Western Swing.

Izzy has dedicated her life to touring, playing music and writing songs about her experiences. She now resides in Austin, TX.” – Music City Roots

… this is where your Thurday night needs to be going into GOOD FRIDAY.
